The Online Challenge is now open!
The Kentucky Personal Finance Challenge (KYPFC) is an academic competition that allows students to demonstrate their personal finance knowledge in a competitive environment. This challenge help students apply key financial concepts while preparing them for real-world financial decisions.
Any Kentucky high school or middle school student (grades 6-12) is eligible to participate. There is no cost to compete. The deadlines are below:
Online Challenge begins January 1, 2025 and ends March 22nd, 2025.
2025 KYPFC Finals is April 25th, 2025 at Northern Kentucky University.
2025 NPFC is June 1-2, 2025 in Atlanta, Georgia.
How does the Challenge Work?
- Teachers Register - Teachers sign up and crete student teams of 3-4 students. There is no limit to how many teams a teacher can enter and registration is free.
- Teams Take the Online Exam - Students compete in the first round by complete a 30-question, multiple-choice online exam covering key personal finance topics. The exam must be completed in 35 minutes, and all questions must be answered before moving forward.
- Top Teams Advance to the State Finals - The highest-scoring teams move on to the Kentucky State Finals at Northern Kentucky University on April 25th. Finalist teams will analyze a fictional case study and present their financial recommendations to a panel of business leaders, economists, and financial professionals.
- State Champion Represents Kentucky at Nationals - The winning team will travel to Atlanta, Georgia to compete in the National Personal Finance Challenge Finals on June 1-2, 2025. All travel, lodging, and meals will be covered for the team and their teacher.
