The FinanceChallenge ONLINE! is free of cost to participate. Teachers must register teams comprised of 3-4 students in grades 6-12 in order for them to recieve their unique access code. Once each member has their access code they will take the FinanceChallenge ONLINE! individually, but monitored by a teacher in the room. Each student has 35 minutes to answer a 30 question, rapid-fire exam consisting of caterories on Earning Income, Buying Goods and Services, Saving, Using Credit, Financial Investing, and Protecting and Insuring. Each student is to complete teh challenge as an individual (students do not work in a group). No outside materials or testing aides can be used during the challenge session. And the teacher/coach can not assit students with the questions by guiding them or re-phrasing a quesiton.
The top 7 scoring high school teams will be invited to Helena to compete in the Montana Personal Finance Challenge. At the Montana Personal Finance Challenge, teams will be given a case study scenario in which they have 2 hours to develop recomendations for a fictional family's financial situation. The teams will create a presentation for their recomendations to present to a panel of judges. The judges will then determine the team to move on in the competition to compete in the National Personal Finance Challenge in May. 1st place students are awarded trophies and a $50 Amazon gift card, 2nd place students are awarded trophies and a $25 Amazon gift card.
