How it Works

How It Works

It's quite simple, really! Registration for the New York State Personal Finance Challenge is open from January 1 to March 18, 2024! 

  • Teachers and students (grades 9-12) may participate in the National Personal Finance Challenge from January 1, 2024 until March 18, 2024 at 6:00 PM ET. 

First, visit TEACHER REGISTRATION to create an account as a teacher coach.

  • Once registered, you will receive a confirmation email. You will use the online portal to register any number of teams consisting of three to four students.

  • When the teams have been created, you will download a unique access code for each student. 

  • Have the teams set an exam date and time that is convenient for all team members. Make sure you have reliable internet and there's a proctor on site.

  • When your students are ready to compete, distribute the unique access codes. This will enable them to take the tests.

  • Once the teams have completed the online exam, you can see your team scores instantly.

Important Dates

  • New York State online exam period: January 1 to March 18, 2024.

  • New York State winners will be announced by March 20, 2024.

    • The Top 4 Teams will advance to the in-person New York State Finals on April 1, 2024 at TBD.

    • The first-place team from the New York State Finals will advance to the National Finals.

    • National Finals will take place from May 19-20, 2024 in Cleveland, Ohio. The Competition will be held at the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland.

    • The Council for Economic Education will not cover the teams' travel costs to the National Finals.

    • All expenses are paid once in Cleveland, Ohio. This includes lodging, food, and any event costs.

2024 In-Person New York State Personal Finance Challenge Finals:

2024 National Personal Finance Challenge Finals:

  • The National Personal Finance Challenge Finals will be held in Cleveland, Ohio at the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland from May 19-20, 2024.

  • The Council for Economic Education will not cover the teams' travel costs to the National Finals.

  • All expenses are paid once in Cleveland, Ohio. This includes lodging, food, and any event costs.

  • The Finals will consist of three rounds.

  • An initial Case Study Round - Top 16 teams to advance to the next round as decided by judging panels.

  • The Top 16 teams will then compete in a 20 question Quiz Bowl where the Top 4 teams will advance.

  • The Final Challenge is a 25 question Quiz Bowl to decide the winner of the 2024 National Personal Finance Challenge!
