How It Works

Participating in the New York State Personal Finance Challenge is easy!

Registration opens on January 1st, 2025, and closes on March 31st, 2025, at 6:00 PM ET.

Eligibility:
Teachers and students in grades 9-12 can register to compete in the National Personal Finance Challenge during this period.

Steps to Participate:

1. Teacher Registration:
Begin by visiting the Teacher Registration page to create an account as a coach.

2. Team Setup:
Once registered, you'll receive a confirmation email. Use the online portal to register your teams. Teams should consist of 3-4 students.

3. Access Codes:
After team registration, you’ll be able to download a unique access code for each student.

4. Exam Scheduling:
Set a convenient exam date and time for your team members. Ensure a stable internet connection and that a proctor is present during the exam.

5. Taking the Exam:
When your students are ready, distribute the access codes so they can begin the online exam.

6. View Scores Instantly:
Once the exam is completed, you’ll be able to view your team's scores right away through the portal.

  • Important Dates

    • New York State Online Exam Period:
      January 1st – March 31st, 2025.

    • Winners Announcement:
      New York State winners will be announced by April 2nd, 2025.

    • State Finals:
      The top 8 teams will advance to the in-person New York State Finals on April 11th, 2025. The State Finals will be located the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

    • National Finals:
      The first-place team from the New York State Finals will advance to the National Personal Finance Challenge Finals, which will occur on June 1st-2nd, 2025, in Atlanta, GA.

    • Travel Information:
      Please note that the Council for Economic Education does not cover travel expenses to the National Finals. However, once in Atlanta, all costs—including lodging, meals, and event fees—will be fully covered.

2025 National Personal Finance Challenge Finals:

The Finals will consist of three exciting rounds:

1. Case Study Round:
All teams will compete in this round, with the top 16 teams advancing based on evaluations from the judging panels.

2. Quiz Bowl - Round of 16:
The top 16 teams will face off in a 15-question Quiz Bowl. The top 4 teams will then move on to the final round.

3. Final Quiz Bowl:
In this decisive round, the remaining four teams will compete in a 20-question Quiz Bowl to determine the winner of the 2025 National Personal Finance Challenge!
