FinanceChallenge

How it Works

How it Works

It's quite simple and free of charge to you and your students!

New Teachers - please see these helpful videos from the Nebraska Council on Economic Education to help you register and set up teams (New Teacher Registration, Creating a Team, Student Codes, Completing the Challenge, Accessing Student Data)

Click on Teacher Registration link on the upper left margin of this page.

Once you have registered as a teacher, you can begin to create as many teams of four students as you'd like. After creating your teams, you will be given unique access codes for each student. Distribute these access codes to your students when they are ready to take the challenge.

In the online competition during the month of March, high school students use their unique access code to enter the Finance Challenge ONLINE.  In both divisions, students individually complete a 30-question, rapid-fire exam consisting of categories on Earning Income & Protecting and Insuring, Using Credit & Buying Goods and Services, and Saving & Financial Investing. Every question should be answered, and students are able to go back to previous questions.  Each student will be given 35 minutes and all team members must complete the test on the same day.  NOTE: the online challenge cannot be paused once students have started.  Teachers should monitor students while they take the online exam.

Scoring on individual tests are as follows:

  • +10 points for each correct answer
  • 0 points for each incorrect answer
  • All questions must be answered

High School teachers will have access to their team and individual student scores once the online Challenge window has closed.

High School teachers may bring one team to the State Semi-Finals.  Teachers may reconstitute the members of their team after the online Challenge.  However, all high school Semi-Finals and Finals participants must have competed in the online exam during March.  Teams competing in the Finals cannot be reconstituted from the Semi-Finals.  Please check the Student Eligibility section under "The Rules"  to ensure your students are eligible to participate in the State Semi-Finals.
